Our Engagement Story

Our Engagement Story through Tina’s Eyes:

Where The Twamley's Got Engaged

Our trip to Lake George was just another camping trip that Jared and I were taking. We camped for 4 nights at a state park at the north end of Lake George right near Fort. Ticonderoga.

Looking back there were several red flags that I should have seen. For instance the morning we left we stopped at my parents house to pick up our bikes and a couple other camping necessities. Both of my parents were overly chipper for it being early on a Saturday. My mom said a few too many times “You two are going to have soooo much fun!” This was a little odd because we take a trip similar to this every summer. Jared was a little compulsive about locking the car and the whereabouts of his book bag. When I called home the phone was answered on the first or second ring (my parents always screened their calls). But I didn’t think twice about any of it. Jared and I talked about getting married and we knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, but I thought it would be several years until we tied the knot.

All week I wanted to get up early to watch the sunrise over the lake and the mountains, but I never seemed to get up in time. Our last day at the park we were taking a walk around the lake and found this huge rock right on the water, we sat there for a while and just talked. Later that night around the campfire Jared said that we should go back to the rock in the morning to watch the sunrise. I agree got his flat screen TV. We joke that the only reason he asked then was because football season was just around the corner. d and before we went to be Jared set an alarm (again I should have known something was up). The next morning when the alarm went off I did not want to get up, but Jared insisted and rushed me to the rock, again I should have known. We sat there talking about life, love, us, and everything in-between.

It was such a beautiful moment I wanted to capture it on camera.  I got up to take a picture and Jared got up to, and went to hug me, I just wanted to take a picture, but went along with the hug. He asked me if I promised to love him forever, hearing such a silly question I laughed and said yes, thinking why wouldn’t I. The next thing I knew Jared was down on one knee asking me to make him the happiest man alive. As stunned as I was, all I could say is “are you serious right now?” After that there was a combination of happy tears, shock and joy!

So for the TV. . . .when we moved in together Jared kept saying he wanted a flat screen TV and I told him I wanted a ring. In fact on our way to Lake George Jared complained that football season was starting in a couple weeks and he really wanted a flat screen TV. I told him that the school year was starting in a couple weeks and that I really wanted a ring. So the day after we got home we went out and Jared

Our Engagement Through Jared’s Eyes

Tina had been showing me rings every time we walked by a jewelry store. She would try rings on and tell me that this is something that she would like. All of this made me really nervous, I don’t know why but it just did. So when she did this I looked, said that’s nice and then walked towards the men’s watches.

Finally one day when Tina was out for the night I had my little brother, Derek, over to hang out. He got dropped off so I had to take him home. I took him to his friend’s house, and it just so happens that his friend’s house was right next to a jewelry store. I really didn’t plan on getting Tina a ring that day but that’s exactly what I did (I am still an impulse shopper).

I kept it a secret from everyone; only a select few knew that I was going to ask Tina to marry me. Now for not being a planner I had bought the ring 4 months before I was going to pop the question, not to shabby. We were going on a vacation in August and little did Tina know that her little comments about us getting married were about to happen.

Like I said before very few people knew that I was going to ask Tina to be my wife. So the night before we left for vacation I needed to ask Tina’s father for her hand. I waited to the last minute, probably because I was so nervous, but time was up. Thankfully he said yes.

We went to lake George and we were camping for several nights and then staying at a hotel for the other nights. Now here’s were my lack of planning comes into play. I knew that I had to do it while we were on vacation but I just didn’t know where or how I was going to do it. On our first day of camping we walked around the lake and happened to find a huge rock that overlooked the lake. I knew this was the perfect spot.

Here’s where the wheels started turning. I recommend that we get up one morning and watch the sunrise. Day one passes can’t get up. Day two still can’t get up and day three the same thing. I start
ed to think that maybe I should have recommended a sunset. Finally it was our last night, I tell Tina that we are going to see this sun rise no matter what, this time I actually set the alarm on my phone.

So when the alarm goes off I get Tina up and we start to walk to the rock. I was getting a little nervous because I thought that we were going to miss the sunrise. I was power walking to the rock, jumping over rocks and ruts to get to this rock on time. We made it and the sunrise was beautiful. As we were about to walk away I tell Tina that she is my rock and I get down on one knee and ask her if she would make me the luckiest man in the world. As they would say in show bizz the rest is history and I am still the luckiest many in the world.
