So after our stint at the beach and our bite to eat we were a bit tired and just wanted to get back to the hotel, wash up and rest a bit. After all, spending all day at the beach is not that easy, but we are troopers who will indulge this tragedy for all of you. So we washed up, took a siesta, and were ready to hit the town again. Tina wanted to trek to Parc Citradell but this was foiled once she told Jared that the pack closed at dusk. Jared was not quite ready to move from the bed (and his beer) that fast. After all he did have a tiring day at the beach. Jared told Tina that it was just not going to happen because we would not have enough daylight left to enjoy the park. That was mistake number one.
In a very unlike Tina fashion, she didn’t push him and just went with it. She came to terms with the fact that this last site in Barcelona was not going to be seen. They rested up a little more, watched some of the Olympics and finally decided to head out around 10:00. Mistake number two! Walking out of the hotel we were discussing where we wanted to go, with no real plan in mind we decided to walk down towards the Barcelona coast and maybe get a drink. Mistake number three.
To make a long and very torturous walk slightly less painful lets just say we got lost several times. Not because of Tina’s map reading skills, but because for some reason the coastal streets are not labeled on the map and there are far fewer metro stops. We walked quickly through some “dodgey” areas, and slowed down during some well-populated and lit ones in order to try to get our bearings. Did I mention that Jared was working on some cuts since Tina made him go for a walk on the beach, the sand was rubbing with his shoes, not a very nice combination.
We finally found a street sign, which led us to finding a metro station, yes!!! But oh no the trekking didn’t quite end there, the metro was closed. We aren’t sure if it was because by this time it was 12:30 or because it was Sunday, either way Jared and his cuts were walking back to the hotel. At 1:15 we laid our heads down on our pillows (You know we were tired because Jared didn’t even feel like reading) and learned some very valuable lessons for the remainder of our trip.
- Listen to Tina when she wants to go see something, especially one last thing. Then we could have ended our night on the terrace with some beers and the Olympics.
- ALWAYS have a plan!!
- Check to see when the subway closes.
- Don’t take walks on the beach if you are wearing shoes with no socks.
Sorry there are no pictures as our one and only focus was figuring out where we were.
