One Month!

Boy does time fly. . .we can’t believe that it has been a month since Jackson was born. So much has happened in this past month. We have baptized as parents of a little boy by being peed on. What they do not tell you is that they can also poop on you! Yes, Jackson has pooped on Tina twice and he has soiled the carpet in the living room and his bedroom. The carpet in his bedroom has made it through 4 years of Cortland with out being peed, pooped, or puked on and Jackson managed to do it within a week!

Within his first week of life Jackson has also rolled over. He has repeated this act of strength on several occasions. He has rolled from his belly to his back. The first time was out of anger, Jared let him do tummy time a little bit too long and Jackson was not feeling it. His little fanny and legs got swinging in the air and before we knew it he was on his back, happy as a clam. The next few rolls were much more graceful.

Our first night home was a little rough; little did we know it was because Jackson was STARVING!! As some of you know Jackson lost quite a bit of weight after leaving the hospital, so Dr. Empey (who we LOVE!!) had us give him some formula with a syringe. He is the perfect combination of his mommy and his daddy. He is usually very quiet and content, he just hangs out. He can lay perfectly happy in his crib, bouncy chair, on a blanket, really just about anywhere. This is where he takes after his daddy. He takes after his mommy when he is not so happy. . .he uses those pipes to let you know what he wants! As you can see from the pictures of his first bath, that bath time is one of the times that he vocalizes his discomfort of being wet and cold.

After we started supplementing with formula Jackson went back to his happy self and after doing it for just a couple weeks he was back up to his birth weight. Unfortunately around two weeks old Jackson started getting fussy again. Now Jackson’s version of fussy is not screaming and yelling like most babies, (again, this is a characteristic of Daddy), he just wanted to be held upright and burped. Thinking it was gas, we started giving him baby Gas X with little success. He would burp and fart like a trucker (or Tina). Long story short, he has another one of his mother’s digestive traits, Baby Reflux. The moment he started his medicine he was so much better and back to his usual self.

This past week we introduced Jackson to a bottle. He took right to it, the problem wasn’t him, it was the bottle. See the bottle doesn’t know that Jackson is Italian and eats with vigor, so the milk was coming out way to fast and he would choke, but still try to eat (again true Italian) which is never a good combination. So Tina went to the Internet and did some research on slow flowing bottles for gassy babies, went to three stores, and ended up with a bottle that allows Jackson to suck at his own rate! Now bottle time with Jared is much more successful!

Currently Tina is attempting to get Jackson on a “schedule” we will keep you posted on how that goes for her and Jackson! We all know Tina needs a routine, but Jackson is laid back like daddy and likes to just go with it. Hopefully he will continue to take after Jared and just go with all of Mommy’s craziness and give her what she wants!
