More Gaudi and a Little Town with a Little Beach

Waking up was not as rough this morning, even after our late night of reading. We got off to an early start because we wanted to go to La Pedrera before it got busy with long lines of tourists. La Pedrera is another of Gaudi’s work of art that was completed in 1910. It has an extremely creative roof and amazing ironwork along the balconies. It was Gaudi’s last civic work before dedicating his efforts to Sagarda Familia. It houses a museum of his various works of art as well as furniture and how he used nature as an inspiration. It also had an example of a furnished apartment from the time of its creation. In addition to a tourist stop, La Pedrera houses private residences. We agree that it can’t cost much to live there so we are thinking of getting it as a vacation home. The rooftop acts as a sculpture park to hid the chimneys and ventilation ducts (see photos). It was neat to see and go to but we both agreed, that it was not quiet worth the 16 e to get in.

From there we headed back to the train station in route to a different beach for a day of relaxation before heading to Nice. The girl at the front desk (we don’t know her name because we liked Manuel better) suggested going to Sitges. She explained that it has not only a beach but also a small town to enjoy. She was right! It was a little bit further on the train, but it gave us a chance to see more of the coast and magnificent cliffs and bluffs right on the Mediterranean. After reading about Sitges in her guidebook Tina learned that it is a popular resort area.

Again we were able to rent chairs and an umbrella. This beach was smaller than the last, but just as relaxing. You will notice that Tina is not included in any of the photos as she decided to sunbath Mediterranean style. Again, we did not have a watch so we relaxed until our stomach told us it was time to eat. We made it longer than 4 hours this time.

We were going to walk around the town of Sitges, but since it was Sunday many of the shops were closed. We ducked into a restaurant Casatecha, to enjoy some more Tapas before heading back to Barcelona. Again, Tina felt a need to capture it all on film so see photos.

We dined on Patates Brave (the potatoes with spice sauce) again. This time the sauce was a little bit Spicer, but still didn’t make Tina break a sweat. We also ordered tempura cod, a pork kebab, and prawns in garlic sauce. For the cod, picture a cod cut into bite size pieces, battered and fried. It was very fresh and delicious, but did not come with any type of a sauce. Another observation of Tina’s. . .Catalonians are not dippers, Tina is a dipper. The pork kebab did not come on stick, but was wonderfully seasoned and cooked.

The prawns arrived when we were half way into the other two, you will notice they are not included in the picture.  They were ok, but not our favorite of the day! After a day in the sun we not only looked like golden skinned locals, but smelled like them if you know what we mean. So we hopped on the train in pursuit of our hotel and a nice shower.
