DISCLAIMER: This post contains an excessive amount of videos. . .we just couldn’t help ourselves!
We were all happy that spring was finally arriving, as we were all going a little stir crazy!! What’s great about Rochesterians is that when the weather is above 50 degrees in the spring you would think it was 70.
On one of our trips to the zoo Jackson finally started to realize that the zoo is a place that houses animals, not a place to go and watch kids. It was fun to watch him notice the animals! Jackson also started to enjoy the playground. When we went on his birthday he was very preoccupied by the fact that he could fall, and if he fell, his hands got dirty. Let’s just say he didn’t like dirty hands. His first love was the swing. . .we got him hooked on that and slowly the playground became a fun place and he could care less about his dirty hands.
He may not like to get dirty yet, but he makes up for it with his charming personality. We call him the mayor of Wegman’s because as I push him through the store, he waves and says “hiiii” to everyone passing by. Well his political personality isn’t just for the grocery store. He plays peek-a-boo with the cashiers and the sample people, I think he he trying to get extra samples, which usually works. Enjoy the video below of him playing peek-a-boo at home with Jared. Hearing Jared in the background is almost as entertaining as watching Jackson in the video!
In May, Jackson enjoyed his first meal out. We usually just bring something along for him when we go out to eat, but after a late appointment with Dr. Tripp (my OB) we decided to go to Carmines to grab a bite to eat. Jackson joined the Carmine’s Kid Club – $1.00 for the card and any kid meal from now till he is 12 is only 99 cents. He can also get a kiddo cone for 99 cents. It is a complete steal. We ordered him raviolis; they came with a side of fries and a small drink, which daddy and I enjoyed more than him. He enjoyed his meal, eating two raviolis, several fries and some ice cream!! Just like his mama food makes him happy. He was hamming it up with all of the tables around us. He doesn’t discriminate, he was “chatting” with the kids behind us, the “grandpas” next to us, and the family across from us. All commenting on his appetite and how well behaved he was for a one year old.
As you can see in these next two videos that he LOVES food!!
Thanks to some hot days towards the end of May, Jackson got to enjoy his pool. Pardon his bare bottom, but as the pictures clearly show, he loved it. Hopefully this is the start of his love of water, because momma plans on spending the entire summer at GiGi’s pool!!
The warm weather continued into June and we were able to take our first family trip to the beach. We packed a picnic lunch, but not his bathing suit, because we didn’t think he would “really go into the water.” Boy were we wrong!! He not only loved splashing in the water, but he loved playing in the sand too! As you can see from the video he loved the beach, it was a great family outing the ended with the first Abbott’s of the season!
Since Jackson loved splashing at the beach so much we knew he would love Stoneybrook State Park. So on our first day of summer vacation we decided to go for the day. I was a little nervous about how he would react to being in the backpack carrier, but he loved it. He enjoyed putting his hands under the trickles of water that dripped down the natural stone walls, loved watching all the people and listening to the sound of the waterfall.
Since he did such a great job in the backpack carrier we were afraid to take him out of it once we got to a shallow spot, because we knew he would fight us to get back in it. So we decided that splashing in the water would have to wait. We had a nice picnic lunch and then Jackson let out some energy on the playground. Then daddy and Jackson shared an enormous ice cream cone!! It was such great first trip to Stonebrook State Park that we decided that we would try an overnight camping trip in a couple weeks!!
The spring months brought some fun milestones for Jackson. His language was really taking off. He would say “llow” for “yellow”, he knew various animal sounds, with the roar of the lion being his favorite, and started to follow multistep directions. As a teacher I couldn’t be more proud, hahah. He was now able to climb down large staircases on his tummy and take a single stair or two facing forward. He was also interacting with his toys more and developed a love for cars, trains, trucks, etc.
One night in June he actually POOPED in his potty!! I understand it was a total fluke, but it was fun. I read an article that said it was important to talk about going potty and pooping when they started to realize that they were pooping or peeing, so whenever he made his “poop” face we would ask, “Are you pooping?!?” and he would go “Yeah!” we would reply. . . “Well, let’s poop on your potty” He loves grabbing his little tablet or a book and running for the potty. He sits on it and squeezes, which is very entertaining, and plays with his book or tablet. He usually sits on it with his diaper on, but this night I asked him if he had to go potty after his bath, he said yes, sat down, let out a good squeeze and bam. . .poop in the potty!!
Enjoy the photos. . .
