We had asked the hotel concierge for some suggestion of places to eat earlier in the day. When she handed us a two brochures of places that the hotel was affiliated with, Tina was skeptical because she thought this would be a touristic restaurant. Tina likes to eat where the locals eat. We sat on our terrace dinking Stella Artois (we know it is from Belgium, just go with it) while getting ready and debating on where to go. We decided that we would walk in the direction of the restaurant that was French Cuisine inspired; after all we are in France and we were feeling a little guilty about the Belgium Beer.
As usual Tina looks at the restaurant menu, says, “I don’t know lets look at the place next door.” After the pizza incident, Jared agrees. We do this two more times and Jared knows that if he doesn’t stop her, we would be looking all night.
We settle on the recommended restaurant, Le Cenac. After being seated we were told that they do not have menus in English. This is a double edge sword, it must not be a tourist trap if the menu is only in French. Even with a combined 8 years of French class we remember only a few key phrases and words. Luckily this was not a problem because our server was able to translate for us. We narrowed it down to a dish containing truffles and some form of beef and then the server made recommendations from there.
We ordered a half bottle of Macon en Bourgogne, a wine local to the area. It was a delicious and refreshing after such a hot day. Jared settled on the filet with a peppercorn sauce (surprise) and Tina ordered the raviolis in a truffles and frois gras sauce. The steak came with a side of fries (not going to call them french fries in France) and bread.
As you can see by our before and after pictures we had no complaints and we FINALLY both got a meal that we were more then satisfied with! Everything was mouth wateringly delicious and just the right amount. Neither of us was uncomfortably fully after the meal and Tina got to dip! We both enjoyed the fries and bread dipped into both of our sauces.
We paid the bill, were thanked and asked back the next night after our “generous” tip of a little over 10 Euros, and headed back to our hotel.
We were both surprised at how quiet the city was at only 11:00, considering the bustle that was occurring earlier on in the day. After a very successful afternoon and knowing we had a full day ahead of us we decided to call it a night.
