Everyone likes Vanilla. . .

In my last post I mentioned how Rylan just went with things. . .Expressionless while we went hiking. . .expressionless for most new foods that she tries. . .well I have come to realize that like Jared she can be a little Vanilla. People like vanilla ice cream, I mean its good they will eat it they will enjoy it, but they don’t get super excited. That is our Rylan with most everything. I am not sure if most kids are Vanilla, but in keeping with the ice cream analogy Jackson is a full blown sundae bar. The simplest thing causes an ear to ear smile for Jackson. Experiencing first with him were fun for everyone because he got so excited.. .. ..and Rylan is Vanilla.

First trip to the splash pad. . .VANILLA. She liked the water, she wanted to be in the water, didn’t even really mind getting splashed by the water. I knew she was having fun because she wasn’t clinging to Jared or me. The same was her first time in the sand. She was very curious she seemed to like the feeling of it and wanted to play in it and surprisingly she didn’t try to eat it.

Beach Bumming It!

I am not going to lie I was a little anxious about being a stay at home mom for the month of July. I have said it before I am not meant to be a stay at home mom, I would love 3 days of work, one day with the kids and one day for myself. . .does that make me selfish? I was anxious about going somewhere and having one or both kids have a melt down, now I need to know where the bathrooms are at all times and fingers crossed we get home in time to get everyone in bed for a good nap! After spending 3 days in the house potty training Jackson this momma was ready to get out of the house, so off I went with low expectations!

If you ask princess our month was Vanilla (lol) if you ask Jackson it was (SOOO FUN!) and if you ask me it was PERFECT!! We filled our days with trips to the splash pad, the zoo, various playgrounds, Strong Museum, and Charlotte Beach. Some days we were lucky to have friends join us and other days it was just us three amigos. We also had a lot of fun play dates either at GiGi’s house or at our friend’s house. Thanks to the swim lessons both kids love the pool. My mom bought this little baby float with a sun awning for Jackson and the past two summers he has hated it. . .while Princess LOVES it! I mean why wouldn’t she love her own floating cabana? Jackson who once feared the water is swimming like a fish and even jumped in and went under water!

Montage of Summer Fun!

One of the best parts of July was the weather (which is also why I am behind on the blog). . .it was so nice almost every day! Our days were routine in the sense that Jackson and I would have one on one time while Rylan took her morning nap, from 10-1 we would do something fun, and from 1-4 I would float in the pool while the kids napped! Not a bad life right? Some days Rylan woke up earlier than Jackson which was OK with me because it was our alone time. During this time I learned one thing that Rylan is not Vanilla about. . .Swining!! Smile from ear to ear the minute she sees it.

On July 12th we welcomed Baby David into this world. Seeing my brother hold this little 6 lb 6 oz baby was surreal for me. . .my brother is a father! I am excited that my kids will have cousins around their age to play with and grow up with. I expected both kids to be jealous of Baby David, but Jackson doesn’t really seem to pay much attention to him and Rylan seems absolutely fascinated by him. She loves to look at him, rock him in his car seat (or she may be trying to kick him out of the carseat – she has a fascination with this carseat) and she even brought him a toy from her toy cupboard.

By the end of July we had a walker. . .a cautious walker but a walker none the less. When Jackson started walking he never went back to crawling, where as Rylan will mix walking with crawling. She would start these little walking parties where she would realize that she could walk and just go back and forth between stable object to stable object. However, if there was something she really wants to get to she is down and crawling. What is amusing to me is that she has started to crawl just like Jackson. It’s like a frog crawl hands moving, one knee down and one foot used to push off with. People look at her and go “That is how she crawls?” and I am like “Yup and so did Jackson!”

Look at me Walk!!
