It seems like Jackson has been a part of our family for longer than 3 months. . . It is crazy because there are moments when we are out without Jackson and for a split second we forget that we have him to go home to and there are other times when we are together as a family that it is so natural that we can’t remember life before him.
What has happened since his first month. . .well we went to our first Red Wings Game! Jackson was a very good boy and seemed to enjoy the commotion of the game.
Jackson had his two-month check up where he weighted close to 11 pounds and was almost 25 inches long. Not sure how, but we have ourselves a “tall” baby. He is in the 90th percentile for height, but the 20th for his weight.
Jackson was caught on film rolling over from his belly to his back. This was something that he did for the first time when he was just a couple days old. However, he does not like to perform for the camera. It became Jared’s quest to catch it on film with little success. One afternoon he had a “roll-a-thon” and would not stay on his tummy for tummy time, so Tina took this opportunity to catch the event on film. The roll-a-thons continued and a little less than a month later Jackson started rolling from his back to his belly.
Time on his play mat has become wildly entertaining in the fact that we will put him in the middle of his mat (on his belly or back) and he will end up off the mat with in seconds. This movement has also transferred to his crib he often spins himself around. So that when we get him up in the morning his head is at the opposite end. However, because of his Truwomb (the most amazing swaddle ever!!) he hasn’t rolled over in the crib yet!
The schedule Tina had him on was going great. He took nice long morning and afternoon naps and a brief evening nap. He was able to go 3 to 3 and a half hours in between feedings and eat at 7 and go right to bed. AND then. . .Tina went back to work for a couple days and everything went to shit.
Even though Jackson was used to a bottle and would have 1-2 a day, he was not feeling the whole bottle thing all day. We joked that he was thinking “Where is that soft nipple I love, I would put up with this hard plastic thing, because I knew that nice warm nipple would be there next time!” Lets just say there was a lot of crying, a little sleeping, tons of bouncing on the yoga ball and Jared has a whole new respect for stay at home moms. What was hard was Tina worked Thursday and Friday and then we both worked the Jazz Fest on Friday night and Saturday, so poor little Jackson went a long time with out nursing or snuggling his momma. Let’s just say he was a very happy guy come Sunday and so was mommy!
We have just started weaning Jackson off of the boob. After the trauma of mommy going back to work he takes a bottle like a champ so that didn’t take any getting used to. We were afraid he wouldn’t like the formula or that it would upset his gassy belly, but so far he loves it! Again, typical Italian, he doesn’t discriminate, he just loves to eat! He is equally as gassy, but it doesn’t seem to upset him like it used to so we have stopped the baby Gas X. We are a little afraid of the formula bowl movements. Everyone says that breast fed babies don’t have messy or stinky poops or farts, well not Jackson, his farts reek and his poops are explosive! So the formula ones are going to be deadly! I guess daddy’s summer job started just in time!!
Jared started his summer program this week, so Tina is back on her mission to get Jackson on a nap schedule . . .we will keep you posted! She has relaxed immensely with the daytime naps because he sleeps from 7 pm till about 5 am and is mostly happy during the day. . .can’t really complain about that. The “research” that she has done just says to make sure he isn’t awake for more than two hours because if he becomes over tired, it is harder for him to fall asleep.
In the last few months bath time has become more enjoyable and we spend some time “playing” in the water. He took his first shower, which he also enjoyed. He just squints slightly when the water splashes on him. This July we hope to get him into the pool once it heats up. With all of the hot and humid days, Jackson does not like cool baths, so we have to make sure it is at least 85 degrees.
Jackson is also becoming more aware of what is around him as well as his own body. He is starting to respond and interact with people with adorable coos and caas. He has started to grab toys within reach and is realizing that his hands are his and he controls them. It was fun watching him grab his own feet with a look of amazement!
We had a great first Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. . .both days were filled with relaxing naps and no diaper changes for the honored parent. Jackson was momentarily patriotic on Fourth of July, but quickly lost his cute outfit and hung out in his diaper. We BBQ’d at a friend’s house and figured we would test out the baby hammock that my cousin let us borrow, and Jackson was so cute in it. He started out awake just hanging out and talking. The pictures make it seem like he was afraid, but it was more the flash scaring him, than being in the hammock. He fell asleep and could have stayed in there all night, snug and happy.
Enjoy the pictures. . .don’t worry Tina finally bought new PJ pants and will not be in those busty nursing tops any more! Unfortunately due to extreme heat and humidity she is still not doing her hair!
