I couldn’t think of a better way to bring in 2015 than with a spontaneous get a-way to Lake Placid. Now those of you who know me, know I am a planner. So the fact that we just decided to go away for a couple days on a Thursday and leave the following day is huge for me, especially now that I have two kids to pack for. Once we got there Friday night I was so happy that we did it. We were able to relax in our suit, go in the pool and hot tub, and we even fit in a little time for the Gap Outlet (I mean it isn’t a trip to Lake Placid with out the Gap Outlet)
I always feel grateful for having great kids, but this trip made me realize how great they truly are. First of all both kids were amazing on the long car ride, and napped in their pack-n-plays like a champs. At the last minute on Saturday night we decided to go out to dinner, now my kids (much like me) enjoy an early bedtime, so when we didn’t leave the suite until 6:00 I knew we were pushing it. When we decided to go to one of the nicer restaurants in town that had a 30-minute wait we were pushing it even more. However, Jackson was such a good little boy. He played nicely with the deck of cards that we brought for him (he loves taking things out of a box and putting them back in) and with his quiet book that GiGi got him for Christmas.
Jackson loved the pool. It was an indoor/outdoor pool so he loved going under the bridge into the outside part. He also liked the hot tub, but not as much as the pool (much to my disappointment as I haven’t really been able to go to a hot tub in the past 2 years because I was pregnant for most of those two years). However, I was happy that he liked the pool as he wasn’t really into them this past summer. More than anything I think Jackson loved having Uncle Dave, Aunt Mimi and GiGi around all weekend. He would wake up and ask for anyone who wasn’t up yet. To him it was an all day all weekend party! Rylan was able to build her relationship with Aunt Mimi and GiGi and would even let them hold her. . .oh the little diva.
Little did I know that we would come home and the following week the house would be attacked by the flu?!?! Thankfully I had a week of health (back was finally feeling better) to unpack and get the house back in order before going back to work. It took more work than I thought, but I was finally cleared by my doctor and the district doctor and was scheduled to return to work on the 12th. I went to bed on the 11th ready! The house was clean. The laundry was done. The fridge was packed with healthy meals. I woke up at my usually time, went to the gym, got home and don don donnnnn. . .Jackson had a fever of 103. I knew right away that he had the flu because his little girlfriend from daycare had the flu. So we dropped Rylan off at the sitter, dropped Jackson off at Nanny and Papa’s and Jared and I went off to work. Jared left work to bring him to the doctors and then I left work to pick up his Tamiflu prescription and bring it to him so we could get the first dose in him.
Now Jackson has had his share of colds and ear infections and through them all he pretty much stayed his happy self. He was always the kids with a 103 fever running around the doctors office with smiles and giggles and the doctor would look at me like “now why are you here?” So Monday night when he wouldn’t drink and didn’t even bat an eyelash when we offered him ice cream I knew the poor baby was sick. The good news is I woke up Tuesday with a 102 fever, I guess after one day of work my body had enough. Long sick story short. . .Jackson was sick, I was sick, and Rylan got sick. Jackson managed to contaminate all of his grandparents and thanks to Tamiful Jared managed to avoid this horrible flu altogether.
By Martin Luther King Jr. Day we are all back to our normal health and are able to get out and enjoy the snow and some fresh air. We build a snowman, go sledding at GiGi’s and most importantly enjoy some hot coco and marshmallows. Rylan is a true outdoorsmen just like her mama. . .she was OK for a little bit, especially when we were home building the snowman. My mom’s house was much windier and she wasn’t quite feeling that, so after watching Jackson take a couple runs down the hill her and I went inside to get the hot coco ready. I think her winter sport will also be shopping.
Rylan turned 5 months old in January and thanks to the styling efforts of Miss Tiff, Rylan rocked her first set of piggy tales, and boy did she rock them! At 5 months she weighed 13 lbs and 11 oz. Rylan discovered her toes and LOVES to chew on them. Jackson never really showed much interest in his feet, so it is fun to watch Rylan partake in this “baby milestone.” She continues to rolls, giggle and be a diva.
