What a View!

We arrived at the top of Ana Capri with no physical harm done to our bodies, psychological harm, now that is a different story and one that would take far to long to get to the bottom of, so we wont go there. At the top Pepe gave us more great information on what we could do with our hour of free time. Choice one was to walk around the town and do a little shopping and site seeing. Choice 2, take a chair lift to the top of the highest peak on Capri with amazing views in every direction for only ten euro round trip. The chair lift takes you to the top of Mount Solaro.

We decided that the chair lift would not only give us great views of the town but it would also be time efficient since we needed to meet Pepe back at the meeting spot in one hour. It was a twenty-six minute round trip, 13 up, 13 back. This gave us plenty of time at the top to see the breath taking 360 degree view of Capri. We are grateful for the invention of the digital camera as we would have ran out of film for sure. We took numerous pictures on the way up and down, as well as, of the breath taking views of the water, the island and of people’s gardens.

Once at the top we were literally in the clouds. They were closing in around us and it was breath taking and surreal. Tina joked that we were on cloud nine, but we later agreed that we truly were. We tried to take some pictures of I Faraglioni, rocks isolated at sea, but the clouds were not cooperating. Luckily we got some good pictures later on in the day. Unfortunately, it was too cloudy and misty to do any video when we were at the top, but enjoy the videos of the ride down.

When we met back up with Pepe he gave us some more information; Mainly about the wealth that stays on the island. There is a hotel with a suit in it that only costs upwards of $6,000 Euros a night.  Now I know why Sam opted to find us a nice hotel in Sorrento. Pepe then lead us to where the original entranceway into the town was, these wooden stairs are called Via Krupp. Pepe told us it was 777 steps and that this could be one of our options for our next free time (about 2 hours), however his suggestion was to fill a cap of water and throw it on your face, take a picture at the top and tell all your friends that you climbed all the stairs.

Now it was right around lunchtime so our other option was to walk around the town, shop and get lunch. So after hearing the choices we decided that walking down and then back up all those historical steps would be such a great memory and also a great workout, and depending on whom you asked it was not 777 steps but more like 1000. So we spent some time contemplating and decided that we were both a little hungry and would rather be thrown off the cliff than walking down and then back up the stairs, so we went into town (sorry Dave and Mary, we know how much you love running up stairs).

We walked around Ana Capri and grabbed a light bite to eat. We got a type of stuffed bread that was filled with egg, capicola, and of course mozzarella cheese.  We decided that this must be the Italian version of a breakfast pizza, and you all know how much Tina loves breakfast pizza. We also ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich. Unlike the sandwiches in Barcelona this one had NO mayonnaise on it and it was amazing. The chicken was thin and cooked to perfection, on fresh bread with lettuce and tomato.

After lunch we walked around a little bit, ventured into a cemetery. You may notice in the pictures that on the gravestones there are usually pictures. This was a little bit different, especially because they are all outside. This really goes to show the lack of bad weather in Sorrento. We met up with Pepe to head down to Capri Town, the main town on the island.
